The intensified railway tariff conflict is also turning trade unionists once morest the GDL. The head of the Civil Service Association wants to take action once morest this and speaks in a letter of solidarity of “misunderstandings and shortenings”.

IIn the hardened collective bargaining conflict with Deutsche Bahn, solidarity with the train drivers’ union GDL seems to be faltering among trade unionists. In a four-page letter, the federal chairman of the dbb Civil Service Association and Collective Bargaining Union, Ulrich Silberbach, explained the goals to his board colleagues and underlined the GDL boss Claus Weselsky’s willingness to negotiate.

The reason for the extensive explanation was “misunderstandings and shortenings” both in the media reporting and in “numerous emails from members,” according to the letter, which is available to the FAZ. 41 member unions are organized under the dbb umbrella, including the GDL. The dbb supports the GDL financially by paying half of the strike pay. That’s why, from the umbrella union’s point of view, it is important that solidarity is maintained. The train drivers receive 100 euros per strike day.
