After the Embracer Group bought Square Enix’s Western AAA studios, the focus was on what might happen to Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise, but what regarding Eidos Montreal? With another Guardians of the Galaxy game probably off the table, what can they do next? Well, according to Jeff Grubb on the latest episode of his show Game Mess Mornings, it looks like they might be returning to the franchise they are best known for – Deus Ex. Although it’s still very early, Embracer is said to be much more open to the return of Adam Jensen, and Eidos Montreal is on fire to “do what Cyberpunk 2077 mightn’t” in the realm of sci-fi RPGs.
In fact, we don’t know what to expect from Embracer’s Crystal Dynamics company, Eidos Montreal. I heard they want to go back to [Deus Ex]. They want to do what Cyberpunk 2077 mightn’t, these words go around. I mean let’s see if it happens. It’s so early, who knows what it’s going to turn into, but earlier, there wasn’t even… there wasn’t even a way to even start this conversation under Square Enix, you know?
Of course, take this with a fair amount of skepticism, but it would certainly make sense for Eidos Montreal to return to Deus Ex. And with the power of new hardware, engines, and the backing of a benevolent and wealthy Embracer, they may have a good chance of creating the cyberpunk we’ve all been waiting for.
