Detroit, the engines and powertrains subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America, has just produced its millionth engine at the manufacturing plant in Redford, Michigan (US).
“For more than 84 years, Detroit has been building world-class, state-of-the-art engines with cutting-edge technology,” said Matt Pfaffenbach, Detroit operations manager. “The campus is home to 2,900 employees. We are extremely proud of this achievement and the progress we are bringing to the industry.
The Redford plant has been producing engines since 1938 including the Heavy Duty Engine Platform (HDEP) product line which includes the DD13, DD15 and DD16 engines. Launched in 2007, HDEP engines were jointly developed in Germany, Japan and the United States. HDEP engines are also built in Mannheim, Germany.
“Our heavy-duty Detroit engines provide customers with the best fuel efficiency and economy with millions of miles of reliability and durability. The production of one million heavy-duty engines at the Detroit plant is a significant achievement and we are delighted to continue this momentum,” added Matt Pfaffenbach.
