Dylan Larkin ruled in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings signed their third consecutive victory with a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.

Author of five goals in his last five games, Larkin took advantage of a 4-on-3 power play in overtime to extend his team’s streak of games with at least one point to seven, their longest of the season. They thus overtook the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in their division.

The Panthers, second, have still been able to pick up a point in 12 of their last 13 meetings.

Alex Lyon was back at Sunrise for the first time since leaving for Detroit and came out on top with 32 saves. It was a career-high 15th start this season for Lyon.

He also stood out in front of his former teammates with a good save in front of Sam Bennett in the first period.

However, it was another Sam who got the better of him first, Reinhart this one, with his 33rd goal of the season and 500th career point which opened the scoring. A turnover caused by Dmitri Kulikov while his team tried to overcome a numerical disadvantage gave the Panthers the disc again, then Reinhart hit the target with a perfect wrist shot, scoring in an eighth game in a row, which constitutes a team record. The striker, who is the second highest scorer in the league, equaled Pavel Bure’s previous mark in his last outing.

Michael Rasmussen skillfully redirected Olli Maatta’s shot to tie the game midway through the second period, but Gustav Forsling gave his team the lead again just 16 seconds later.

The Wings worked hard to come back in the third period, and this time, Maatta and Rasmussen set the table for Robby Fabbri’s equalizing goal. Goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky had to admit defeat after rejecting 26 of the 29 shots aimed at him.

Injured in the lower body at the end of the last match on Monday, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov was absent for this reason this evening. In the opposing clan, Patrick Kane was also on the sidelines.

The other clash of the day was to be between the Blackhawks and the Sabres, but it had to be postponed until Thursday due to bad weather in Buffalo.
