Detroit Lions with Amon-Ra St. Brown are joined on “Hard Knocks”.

The annual preseason documentary “Hard Knocks” is making a stop in Detroit next summer: The Lions, with German-American Amon-Ra St. Brown in their ranks, will be followed over five episodes in the pre-season.

The mini-series begins on the evening of August 9th. It will be the first time that “Hard Knocks” accompanies the Detroit Lions in the 17th edition – in general, the series, which documents the last weeks of the pre-season and the preseason games, has never existed with a team from the NFC North .

“We look forward to showcasing Detroit as a city and the amazing team culture we’re building here,” Lions President Rod Woods said in a statement. “HBO Sports and NFL Films are the absolute best in their field and we know they will be great partners in bringing our story to fans around the world.”

The Lions are heading into their second offseason under head coach Dan Campbell. Last year, when a radical upheaval was initiated, Detroit only won three games, but was still very well received in the media, partly because of Campbell’s buddy-like and authentic manner. Campbell is also likely to become one of the central characters in the series.

In terms of sport, a German-American was one of the big bright spots: rookie receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown not only secured a starting place, he caught 90 balls for 912 yards and five touchdowns and was Detroit’s most productive receiver. He should also play a role in the documentation.
