So no one expected that. The latest and famous production of Quantic Dream, Detroit Become Human, will soon offer a whole new story, but not through the video game…
Sure manga
Released in 2018, Detroit Become Human is still the latest game from Quantic Dream, a French studio widely known for narrative and cinematic games like Heavy Rain or Beyond Two Souls. The adventure took us to a futuristic Detroit following a social and civil conflict between humans and androids, always with this possibility of leading several characters on multiple trajectories to shape a unique and poignant story.
A successful atmosphere for a software that was just as good… and which is now back on the front of the stage. But not in video games, no, since we are talking regarding a freshly announced manga which will feature a new story written by Saruwatari Kazami and drawn by Moto Sumida, under the supervision of Quantic Dream. This will be called Detroit Become Human Tokyo Stories.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Japan?
For once, the Japanese angle will be essential and will address the very different vision of Japan towards androids. In the Land of the Rising Sun, robots are very popular and represent a real vision of the future: Reina is a perfect representation of them, she who is a humanoid machine and popular Japanese icon (as well as the central character of the manga).
But because romance never lasts long, the inhabitants will gradually be replaced by androids and tensions will then be inevitable, leading to a revolution directly on the archipelago. Moto Sumida said on Twitter:
Detroit Become Human is one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. I am happy to be involved in this project. This comic will be a story regarding how androids behave in Japan while the game’s story continues in Detroit. Hope you all enjoy it.
note that if the title (quite logical, by the way) “Tokyo: Become Human” was not chosen, it is quite simply because it has already been used… for a Japanese advertisement for the video game, in live-action and nine minutes, during the marketing campaign years ago. Whoops.
Detroit Become Human Tokyo Stories will therefore be released in Japan on July 22. and can be purchased at Comic Bridge.
