Detroit, a unique concept of a social support center

The creators of this innovative and pioneering structure, united in a Cooperative and Participatory Society (Scop), offer individualized support where the young person will participate in actions around cooking, DIY, gardening… with a playful and educational approach.

The purpose of this place is to promote the development of those welcomed by putting into practice concrete situations, carrying out simple gestures, using appropriate mediation, following an assessment of the situation in the presence of parents and the aspirations of the young person. “During this meeting, we establish an inventory with the parents, then with the child, explains Sébastien Vignolles. Then, we offer an individualized solution that is part of a group dynamic. For the moment, we do not have an external offer, but it might evolve with partners from the medico-social and social sectors. »

Meet the needs

The team works in close collaboration with the Departmental House for the Disabled of 64 (MDPH). The families of those received benefit from aid for the support of the stay. The three educators, who previously worked together in the same structure, came up with the idea for the project in order to meet existing needs. Indeed, many families of children not accompanied by specialized establishments had no solution, either to benefit from a respite, or in addition to educational support. Faced with this lack of places, the trio took risks, including financial ones. After a year of hard work, they are ready to take up the challenge as soon as “Detroit” opens in mid-October.
