According to the latest Public Health France bulletin, the epidemiological situation of dengue is worsening in the French West Indies.

In Martinique, the spread of the virus continues to accelerate with the presence of more and more cases in the communes of the Center and the North.

Over the past four weeks, the municipalities of Trois-Ilets (55 cases), Schœlcher (34 cases), Fort-de-France (30 cases) and Saint-Pierre (20 cases) have recorded the highest cumulative number of cases.

In Guadeloupe, the archipelago is also experiencing an increase in the number of people affected by the dengue virus.

The circulation of the virus is particularly in the municipalities of Saint-François and Trois-Rivières.

Visits to the emergency room for dengue syndrome are in
augmentation.

82 confirmed cases in Guadeloupe and 96 cases in Martinique

Between August 7 and 13, 2023, 82 cases were recorded in Guadeloupe as well as 240 clinically suggestive cases, 32 emergency visits and 2 hospitalizations following emergency visits.

On the Martinique side, the report shows 96 confirmed cases of dengue fever. Added to this are 490 clinically suggestive cases (RMS) and 86 visits (SOS), 16 emergency visits and 3 hospitalizations following emergency visits.

A less alarming situation in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy

In Saint-Martin, the epidemiological situation remains calm with, for the moment, no case of dengue fever recorded on the territory between August 7 and 13. Only one visit to the emergency room was recorded.

However, the situation is to be monitored carefully.

In Saint-Barthélemy, an increase in the number of cases has been observed in recent weeks.

The previous week, 5 cases were confirmed, in addition to 5 clinically suggestive cases.

The inhabitants of the territories of the French West Indies are called upon to show the greatest vigilance.
