Detention of two men extended after discovery of large arsenal in Hijuelas

As there are still several loose ends in the case, the Prosecutor’s Office requested that the detention be extended in order to conduct further investigative proceedings.

HIJUELAS.- The La Calera Guarantee Court decided to extend, until Friday, August 23, the arrest of two men. Both would be involved in the discovery of a huge arsenal of different types of weaponsinside a property in Ocoa.

Carabineros from the Hijuelas Police Station arrived at the plot on Maitenes Street in the Ocoa Valley on the night of Monday, August 20, to help a woman who reported that a relative was threatening to kill her and that this relative had even fired a few shots in her direction.

The police found the subject when he was leaving the property carrying a heavy bag. After taking him into custody, they checked the bag and found various long and short firearms. But the surprise was even greater when they inspected two buildings inside the property, where there was a second man, more weapons and ammunition. Among several weapons, what caught their attention was what appeared to be two fragmentation grenades and a submachine gunThe dangerous nature of the situation made it necessary for the GOPE of Valparaíso to be present, as it has the training and equipment to handle an operation of this nature.

Court extended detention

The woman’s relative and the second man are of Chilean nationality and are around 30 years old.. They have no criminal record, but the discovery of an arsenal of this type is not common. It is the largest seizure of weapons that has been made in recent times in the Valparaíso Region. This is why The Prosecutor’s Office requested to extend the detention of the two menin order to investigate more deeply the origin of the weapons and other loose ends that exist so far.

Carabineros seized revolvers, shotguns, two fragmentation grenades, a submachine gun, magazines and projectiles from the property located in Ocoa.

Thus, the Court agreed to the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office y scheduled the formalization hearing for this Friday, August 23, at the La Calera Guarantee Court. So far, they have been charged with unjustified shooting, threatening to kill the woman in the context of domestic violence, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the Drug Law.
