Al-Jazira Club announced earlier today, Monday, the appointment of Amouta as coach of its first football team.
Al-Mountakhab newspaper said in a report that Amouta signed a two-season contract with Al-Jazira Club, which includes many goals, most notably returning to competing for titles. The total amount that the Moroccan coach will receive is $3.5 million.
The newspaper added that Amouta brought with him to Al Jazira in the UAE a large technical staff, including his compatriots Hisham Al Idrissi and physical trainer Hassan Al Loudari, as they had previously worked with Amouta in Wydad Casablanca and then in the Jordanian national team. The staff also includes former international assistants Rachid Rouki and Aziz Lakraoui and performance analyst Yassin Dribou.
Last June, the Jordan Football Association announced the termination of Amouta’s (55 years old) contract by mutual consent at the latter’s request, and appointed his compatriot Jamal Al-Salami as his replacement.
Amouta led the “Nashama” team to the 2027 Asian Cup by topping its group at the expense of Saudi Arabia, in the joint qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, in addition to finishing runner-up to Qatar in the 2023 Asian Cup.
Amouta has a distinguished coaching reputation at the club and national team levels in Asia and Africa, and has achieved many notable accomplishments, most notably leading Qatari club Al Sadd to win the league title in the 2012-2013 season, the local cup in 2014 and 2015, and the Sheikh Jassim Cup in 2014, before leading Wydad Casablanca to win the Moroccan league in 2016, and then the following season to the African Champions League title.
Amouta also previously led the Moroccan club Fath Rabat to the local cup and the African Confederation Cup titles in 2010, and most recently led the Royal Army to the Moroccan league title last season.
Amouta also led his country to the African Nations Championship title in 2020.
