Details of the first meeting of the new Egyptian government due to electricity

The Prime Minister began the meeting by pointing out his keenness to have the first meeting of the government following its new formation be dedicated to following up on the measures currently being taken by the ministries and relevant authorities to solve the problem of power outages with the aim of reducing loads, in an effort to reach a final and radical solution to this problem, as the government explained in accordance with its plan that it announced during the past period.

In this context, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly explained that during the previous period, several meetings were held with the concerned ministers and officials, with the aim of reaching solutions to this problem. In this context, he thanked the previous ministers for their efforts in this regard, stressing that we are continuing to follow up on this important file, in an effort to find solutions to eliminate this crisis once and for all during the coming period, and not to resort to reducing the loads.

The Prime Minister told the attendees: You are now tasked with finding a permanent solution to this problem. We have previously provided an exceptional solution for the current summer months, by pledging to provide regarding $1.2 billion to finance the purchase of petroleum materials needed to operate power stations, and we promised to provide the final solution by the end of the year, which requires taking measures to ensure its implementation.

In the context of his speech, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly said that Egypt has succeeded in establishing electricity stations and networks to meet the needs of local consumption, with a surplus as well, and this is the most difficult thing, but what is required now is operating efficiency, and this is the task of the Minister of Electricity, and the same applies to the Minister of Petroleum, as it is necessary to work on increasing production and raising operational efficiency, and as for the Minister of Finance, there is a decision to provide the financial resources required to solve this problem.

The Prime Minister pointed out another point related to the necessity of working to rationalize consumption and complete this system, and confronting the phenomenon of electricity theft and other random phenomena that violate the law.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also confirmed that there are assignments from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to accelerate the entry of large capacities of renewable energy into the electricity grid.

In this context, the Minister of Electricity referred to the total new and renewable energy that will be added to the network soon. He also reviewed the efforts being made to raise operating efficiency, rationalize consumption, and control illegal connections in coordination with the relevant authorities, stressing that work is underway with the relevant officials to intensify these efforts during the coming period.

In turn, the Minister of Petroleum indicated that work is currently underway to implement the issued assignments regarding the supply of the required shipments of petroleum materials to the electricity sector, noting that work is being done at the same time on an integrated plan that includes increasing the production of petroleum materials; to provide what is required for this important sector, which will contribute to eliminating the problem of power outages radically.

The Minister of Finance spoke regarding the electricity file being a top priority for the ministry, according to the assignments issued in this regard, in order to work on solving this problem, by providing the necessary funding to make available the petroleum products required to operate the power stations, pointing to the coordination and cooperation in this regard with the Ministers of Electricity and Petroleum, and working on paying the required dues.
