Destroyed and impassable stretches of gravel generate discomfort and complaints

“It is a disaster. You can’t walk” stated Ignacio visibly angry, a tourist from Capital Federal that yesterday followingnoon linked Las Grutas with Bariloche by national route 23. The man was traveling with his family in a medium-sized vehicle and in the area of La Fragua, a large stone hit the chassis of the vehicle causing a significant dent.

The gravel sections between Jacobacci and Dina Huapi are very deteriorated and cause discomfort among motorists. The situation occurs at the time when the main communication route in the south of the province of Río Negro has the most traffic. And it is recurring every summer.

For the residents Engineer Jacobacci, Clemente Onelli, Comallo and Pilcaniyeu, It is essential that the gravel sections have good passability conditions, since they often have to travel to Bariloche for reasons of Health, Justice and supply for their businesses, among others.

This long weekend, hundreds of tourists chose Route 23 to join the mountains with the sea and vice versa. But the discomfort due to the terrible state of the gravel sections overshadowed the trip.

“Before leaving Las Grutas, they told us that the Rionegina steppe was very attractive and it is, we loved it, and that coming by the southern line we saved many kilometers. That’s why not We doubted it and decided to come for 23. But it was the first and last time. On the gravel we traveled practically at a man’s pace due to the terrible state and on top of that a stone damaged our car. I don’t come this way anymore” added the tourist.

To the complaints of this tourist, those of the locals were added on social networks.

40 kilometers that become an odyssey

In the 200 kilometers that unite both towns, there are sections in which the paving work is underway and must be traveled over gravel. In some cases for the old trace and in others by deviations little compacted and with little maintenance.

Total they are not more than 40 kilometers. But in general the state is deplorable. Large loose stones, deep wells, cuts, ditches, saws and guadales -earth mattresses- are permanent obstacles that motorists must overcome by driving with great patience, sharpening their ingenuity and skill so as not to break a cover, shock absorbers, exhaust pipe or any other part of the vehicle.

The greatest difficulties are registered between the Post of Olate and the area known as El Caracol. In addition to the stones, saw and wells, right on a very steep ascent, and near a curve, a large guadal was formed that covers practically the entire width of the route. The same postcard can be seen a few meters following going down the area in the direction of Comallo.

On the other hand, between La Fragua and the “rise” of the El Cóndor ranch, the trace presents large loose stones and others that appear from the ground, wells, saws and cuts.

The asphalt section between Jacobacci and Clemente Onelli was marked

The company Equimac completed the horizontal signaling works on the pavement of the stage between Jacobacci and the access to Estancia La Beatriz. In this section, the paving work presents an important degree of progress. Two bridges are currently being built over the Huahuel Niyeu stream.

Some 35 kilometers of pavements were enabled some time ago, but they lacked horizontal signage. In this sense the demarcation included central road axis, borders and arrows, which notably improve driving conditions and night visibility.
