On the coastal reefs of Shitiping, Fengbin, Hualien, it was discovered that 25 arrows were painted with paint, destroying the natural environment and landscape, and the tribes who maintain the marine environment denounced it as “outrageous”. Heavily punished; manpower will be dispatched today to remove them one by one manually.
Chen Jiemin, a volunteer of the Ocean Patrol Team of Port Tribes in Fengbin Township, was interviewed by reporters and said that it was too much to see the reefs being painted 4 days ago. Looking carefully, the arrows in the painting are fluorescent paint. There are 25 arrows in total. It is used by guests to guide at night and draw for fear of getting lost.
Chen Jiemin said that the tribe formed a marine patrol team to undertake the project of the Marine Protection Agency, because the Shitiping sea area has a variety of ecological and marine natural resources, and it is also an excellent place to observe the intertidal zone and dive; especially in recent years, the restoration of giant clams has been successful. If it is removed with a general cleaning solution for removing fluorescent paint, it may affect marine ecology.
Therefore, following discussing with the East Coast National Scenic Area Management Office of the competent authority, since the reef rocks are mainly composed of limestone, they can only be manually removed and cleaned one by one. It has also notified the police station and sea patrol personnel in the jurisdiction, hoping to find out the murderer.
Li Zhihua, director of the Hualien Management Station of the East Management Office, explained that there are surveillance cameras nearby, but the entrance path at the graffiti area is blocked by miscellaneous trees, and the inspection of the video has no results; they also sent people to the scene to take pictures, but following nightfall, the shore was pitch black. There are some difficulties, and we will continue to track down, and if the perpetrator is caught, he will seek compensation from him.
Li Zhihua said that the northeast monsoon was strong in the past two days, and the personnel had safety concerns in clearing the reefs. The weather improved today, and the clearing work started in the morning.
Li Zhihua said that according to Article 62 of the Tourism Development Regulations, whoever damages the natural resources or sightseeing facilities in a specific scenic area, the competent authority may impose a fine of up to NT$500,000 on the perpetrator according to law, and demand restoration of the original state and compensation for restoration costs. If the damage is irreversible, a fine of less than 5 million yuan can be imposed. The public is urged not to deliberately destroy natural ecological resources, and the penalty is quite heavy.
