It’s already the fifteenth edition: dance in all its forms is making a comeback in Vernon (Eure)!

Labeled Terre de jeux 2024, the City of Vernon has chosen to highlight a discipline which has just joined the Olympic competition, breakdancing. See you on Saturday March 16, 2024 at the Gévarin gymnasium for a breathtaking breaking competition.

“After the town was labeled Land of Games and stopover town on the Flame route, the first festive event we offer is breakdancing. We are proud to host this competition in Vernon and to honor the many dancers who, beyond the competition, come to introduce this new Olympic discipline. This embodies the spirit of the JOP, particularly with the fusion of cultures and talents,” rejoices François Ouzilleau, mayor of Vernon.

Compete with tricks

Breakdancing, also called breaking, is a style of urban dance where “dancers take turns competing once morest each other during a performance where they combine leg movements and figures on the ground,” explains the French Dance Federation. The discipline has been recognized as a high-level sport since 2019.

With Destination Break, the City promises you a show that will look like a world tour: 20 international dancers will come and compete on stage.

As part of the Olympic Games, Vernon hosts this world-class competition bringing together 20 of the most talented and innovative dancers on the international scene. Through their mastery and creativity of the art of breakdancing, they will compete in a battle on stage.

On the BBOY side, we can find Poland, Morocco, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Latin America, Ukraine and Algeria. For the BGIRL category: Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece and France will be there.

Twenty international dancers

Several speakers will also be there, including speaker Jasim, creator of Break The Floor in Cannes (renowned breaking event, Editor’s note), and DJ Mingo from Rouen who has been evolving in the world of breakdancing as a DJ / Beatmaker since 2005.

Without forgetting the dancers who will make up the jury, in charge of deciding between the competing dancers.

Will be present: Bruce Almighty, who was a member of the jury at the Royal Arena Festival and at the Urban Project in Yverdon and considered one of the funniest bboys in the business; Khalil, dancer from Montpellier, resident at Insep in preparation for the 2024 Olympics, notably winner of the Redbull BC One France Cypher in Montpellier and the Redbull BC One Last Chance Cypher in Paris and Tomifly.

If dance in all its forms has taken on a new style this year, there is no question of completely denying its roots.

Two choreographic performances will be given by local dancers: the Break’Eure Association, co-constructor of the event, as well as by Alexandra Fourcaud, dance teacher in Vernon.

Dance in all its forms, Destination Break, Saturday March 16 at the Gévarin gymnasium. Prices: €8.00 and free for children under 6 years old accompanied by an adult. Tickets will be on sale from March 11 at the City of Vernon sports department (35, rue de Gamilly) and on the evening of the event at the Gévarin gymnasium box office.
