Despite the crisis: Dominic Thiem receives a Miami wildcard

Dominic Thiem, who is in a sporting crisis, can look forward to another wildcard: The 29-year-old from Lower Austria, who won the US Open in 2020 but is fighting to catch up with the top tennis players following an injury in June 2021, can now also do so start at the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami without qualifying in the main competition.

Thiem had recently received wildcards for the US Open, Australian Open, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Indian Wells, among others. In Miami, former US Open winner Emma Raducanu is also allowed to compete in the main competition with a “free ticket”. This was made possible by ex-player and tournament director James Blake. “Both players have shown they can win the biggest tournaments in the world and we’re excited to welcome them to Miami,” said Blake. Miami will be played from March 19th to April 2nd.
