The time will soon come for all Final Fantasy VII fans to immerse themselves in Rebirth, from the start of next year… but the game is also available to newbies to the saga. In any case, game director Naoki Hamaguchi wants to repeat it.
Cult, but difficult to access?
In many ways, Final Fantasy VII is perhaps the most cult game in the entire Final Fantasy franchise and it must be admitted that its impact was enormous, even benefiting from an animated film of its own, ‘a prequel and therefore a three-part remake. The first was released three years ago and the second, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, will arrive at the beginning of 2024.
If you ever decide to play the original 1997 game before this second part, know in any case that Naoki Hamaguchi would understand if you move on: the game would simply be “difficult” to access according to his words, transcribed in a recent interview with Gadget Match.
We understand that FF7 is a difficult title to tackle today. But the game (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, editor’s note) is developed meticulously so that you don’t feel thrown off when you start playing. All the tutorials will be there and we have created everything carefully so that even a new player can enjoy the game.

A priori therefore, if you have not played the original game, or even Final Fantasy VII Remake, released in 2020, you will be able to immerse yourself body and soul in Rebirth. There will be tutorials (and still happy ones, some might say) and therefore a recap of the story for latecomers. Everything is fine.
As a reminder, we had the opportunity to play the software in preview, a test from which we came away completely delighted. “Opening the doors to a fabulous world and enhancing a recipe that has proven itself in Final Fantasy VII Remake, this first take on Rebirth gave us the impression of marking the end of a prologue and the beginning of a grandiose adventure”we said in our preview.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024 for PlayStation 5.
