Video games
Despite everything, Gamescom in Cologne did not miss its entrance
Many games were shown during an “Opening Night” which was very briefly interrupted by an unwanted guest.

Geoff Keighley had just started with the presentation of the highly anticipated game “Starfield” when an individual invited himself on stage trying to grab the microphone of the host to talk smokily regarding GTA 6 that himself (and Bill Clinton ) would like to find out. The impressive deployment of the security service quickly put the ceremony back in order while its helmsman developed the idea that the video game was only “love” but that one should not push Grandma in the nettles all the same.
In the two-hour “Opening Night” on Tuesday evening from 8:00 p.m. Swiss time, this was the only observable hitch in a well-oiled machine, where game presentations and trailers were succeeded at a frantic pace in honor of the opening of the doors of the now largest exhibition dedicated to video games in the world, Gamescom in Cologne. The event, open to the public, begins this Wednesday and closes next Sunday.
From this show, what do we remember? That it perfectly symbolized the extraordinary density of video game releases over the coming months. With essential titles such as “Call of Duty – Modern Warfare III” which revealed an impressive infiltration into a huge fortress and “Alan Wake II” which marks the return of a legendary license next October. There was also food for everyone but also a plethora of trailers that only seemed to be focused on humanoid fights once morest huge bosses on an unusual and grandiose terrain. A repetition that tended to tire too.
The rumor counted on an appearance of Hideo Kojima, the most notorious creator of Japanese video games, but the latter was conspicuous by his absence. We had to console ourselves with the arrival on stage of filmmaker Zack Snyder, who came to present “Rebel Moon”, an ambitious diptych, the first part of which will be broadcast next December on Netflix. It wasn’t a video game, more like science fiction, but it looked a lot like it.
But one thing is certain, despite the absence of Sony PlayStation, Gamescom in Cologne did not miss its entry. Not sure that’s enough to justify maintaining major physical events to celebrate the video game industry, but enough to take first place in the hearts of gamers. And in Europe moreover.
