Former Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Faisal has filed a contempt of court petition once morest the Lok Sabha Secretariat for failing to reinstate his post as MP, despite the removal of disqualification. Faisal’s petition claims that the non-reinstatement of his post resulted in the loss of two important Lok Sabha sections. Advocates KR Shashi Prabhu and Manu Abhishek Singh V are representing Faisal in the case, with Singh V mentioning the petition before the Chief Justice on Monday. In 2009, Faisal was one of four people sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting Congress worker Muhammad Sahil during an election-related conflict. After Faisal was disqualified from his post, a by-election was announced in Lakshadweep, which has since been frozen by the Central Election Commission.

Muhammad Faisal’s petition states that the post of MP was not restored despite the removal of disqualification. Due to this, two important Lok Sabha sections were lost, the petition said.

Advocate KR Shashi Prabhu filed the petition on behalf of Muhammad Faisal. Advocate Manu Abhishek Singh V will mention the petition before the Chief Justice on Monday.

The High Court had frozen the verdict in which Muhammad Faisal was found guilty in the attempted murder case. Four people, including Muhammad Faisal, were sentenced to 10 years in prison in a case of assaulting Congress worker Muhammad Sahil during the election-related conflict in 2009. After Faisal was disqualified from the post of MP, a by-election was also announced in Lakshadweep.

Muhammad Faisal approached the Supreme Court once morest this. In the meantime, the Kerala High Court stayed the Sessions Court verdict and sentenced the MP to 10 years imprisonment. The by-election announced later was frozen by the Central Election Commission.
