Despite 1:8: “The coach is not up for discussion”

Football is often inexplicable: SPG Edelweiss/Neue Heimat was near St. Martin/M. Already 0-2 behind, they even had to play outnumbered from the 57th minute onwards due to Mathias Ablinger being excluded. While many teams would probably fall apart in this situation, for coach Stefan Kuranda’s away team it was something of a game changer. “We could have been further back. But the red card gave the team a jolt; we were better with ten than with eleven,” says Edelweiss coach Kuranda, whose team scored goals from Gentian Latifi (61′) and Kenan Ramic (74th, 83rd) even turned the game completely on its head.

Gmunden also had a positive experience with the 2-2 draw against Mondsee. Days before the game, coach Markus Waldl had announced his resignation, and the previous assistant coach Stefan Lehner, sports director Christoph Brummayer and Christian Schögl took over on an interim basis for the duel with the title candidate. Brummayer and Lehner had already looked after the club from the Salzkammergut in the previous season and led them to the championship title in the Regional League West. A new coach should be found by the winter break at the latest.

Biggest defeat

For local rivals Bad Ischl, the last matchday will probably remain negatively remembered for a long time: The 1:8 at home against Bad Schallerbach meant the club from the Salzkammergut was the worst Upper Austrian league defeat in the club’s history. Despite the debacle and only five points in the account, sports director Johann Roitmayer says: “Coach Thomas Heissl is not up for discussion. We made a mistake with the transfers in the summer and have to see that we correct that in the winter.”
