Today is a historic day for Desjardins Group customers who will no longer offer its cash booklet, the ancestor of the Accès D online service, following 120 years of existence.

Some 270,000 people, most of whom are 70 and older, still use it.

“It’s catastrophic,” especially in rural areas, immediately launches the president of the Quebec Association for the Defense of the Rights of Retired Women (AQDR), Pierre Lynch.
“They are losing all services!”
“It’s just another sign that seniors currently don’t seem to be important either to businesses or to governments and that’s what’s terrible. [Ils] still represent 20% of the population, soon 25,” laments the president of the AQDR.
“Where is the respect for the people who built society?” asks Mr. Lynch.
The expert also questions the very purpose of the financial cooperative.
“The Desjardins Movement strives to be a social movement, to be a local movement. I think he might get even closer to seniors and ensure that we provide the service that not only people expect, but that to which people are accustomed,” he argues.
He believes that the service should have been maintained for people who continue to use it and who still need it because “some will not be able to adapt”.
