Derrick Rose’s Potential Return to Chicago: Exploring NBA Free Agency Options for the Veteran Point Guard

Released by the Knicks, Derrick Rose will test the market this summer. Announced in the sights of several teams, the 35-year-old veteran point guard might come full circle by returning to Chicago, his hometown.

Put at the end of the bench by Tom Thibodeau this season, Derrick Rose knew that New York had little chance of activating the 15 million dollars of the team option. Neither one nor two, the franchise of Big Apple validated the test by letting go of its leader, in order to make very useful savings in these times of Free Agency.

The question that now arises is where will the 2011 MVP bounce off? According to Steve Popper of Newsdaythe guard would be followed by several franchises, namely the Celtics, the Suns, the Lakers but also… the Bulls.

REPORT: The Lakers, Suns, Celtics and Bulls are expected to have interest in Derrick Rose.

Nothing too surprising to see the first three names in the list. Boston, Phoenix and Los Angeles are looking for lower cost veterans to fill their rosters. The Cactus have to deal with very red finances and the addition of such an experienced point guard for minimum wage would be a nice operation. For the Lakers and the Celtics, this might also be an option if departures are announced soon (D’Angelo Russell, Malcolm Brogdon, Payton Pritchard?).

What will interest us a little more is this interest from the Bulls. The return of the prodigal son, the child of Windy City, Mr Derrick Rose. Admittedly, the number 0 no longer has the same level as in his prime, but the possibility of returning to his den of the United Center, with an audience all committed to his cause would be a magnificent way to conclude a rich NBA career. With Lonzo Ball still absent for many months, there will undoubtedly be a few minutes to take in the lead (which will also depend on the decisions of the front office with Pat Beverley, Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White).

And if Chicago offered a good slice of nostalgia this summer?
