Derrick Rose retires from professional basketball at the age of 35. The popular NBA player announced his decision in an Instagram post on Thursday. In the post, Rose sits in front of a chess board at a large desk and holds a newspaper with a personal message written by her on the front page. In another photo, a rose is also lying on the table, the flower that has become a symbol of the player over the years because of his last name.
Like The Athletic, which is affiliated with the New York Times writesthe announcement in the newspaper was also published by Rose in local dailies in Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Memphis, cities that Rose visited during her career.
“The next chapter will be about following my dreams and sharing my progress. I believe that true success comes from becoming who you were created to be. I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball,” the player told the paper.
Born in Chicago, Rose spent 16 years in the league and played 15 seasons. During his career, he won many prestigious titles: in 2011, at only 22 years old, he became the youngest MVP in the history of the NBA, he also won the All-Star gala three times, and in 2009 he was also chosen as the rookie of the year. The Chicago Bulls drafted Rose in 2008, who remained a key player for the iconic team until 2016.
