Multifunctional hall

The new Alba Arena in Székesfehérvár was officially inaugurated at the weekend.

The multifunctional hall experienced two friendly ice hockey games, which Hungary’s national team won 2-1 on Saturday once morest Norway, which is one of the ice hockey elite, and 3-2 on Sunday.

The intention to build this hall has been for a decade; After the city acquired the required site and the state granted subsidies of 500 million forints, concrete planning work might finally begin in 2016. Market Zrt took on the “strategic” construction project. At the end of 2018, the project originally promised a net realization price of 25.8 billion forints. However, the tender had to be repeated due to the skyrocketing construction prices, with the result that Market Zrt. Three years following the first offer, the contract was awarded for the second time despite an offer that had been increased to 35 billion forints. Just six months later, given the inflationary environment and the fact that the market group is led by a systemically important oligarch, the government added another 10 billion forints.

The Alba Arena was finally completed at the end of 2023. For a total price of around 46 billion forints (120 million euros), the city received a state-of-the-art multifunctional hall with 6,000 spectator seats and a retractable ice surface to provide space for twenty alternative sports such as basketball. Cooling and heating are ensured using ground probes and heat pumps. At concerts the capacity reaches almost 10,000 spectators.
