Der Kleine Tod: Haunting Ballad “Sand” by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood – A Mysterious Musical Interpretation

With “Sand,” Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood once sang regarding the fleeting affair between a young woman and an older man. The newly formed duo Der kleine Tod has now made the song their own – as a haunting ballad with mysterious undertones.

The songs shared by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood have their permanent place in musichistoricalwriting – just think of classics like “Summer Wine” or “Some Velvet Morning”. With “sand” we have Berit Gwendolyn Gilma and Christian Fuchs, both from Graz, have now accepted one of these duets. Your thoroughly dark interiorpretation of this ode to longing and transiencespeed is the starting pointpoint of commonSamen Musicproject The little death.

From the 1960s

Many people will know Fuchs as an FM4 film expert and busy musician (Fetish 69, Bunny Lake, Black Palms Orchestra). With his band Die Buben im Pelz’s The Velvet Underground appropriation, he has already very successfully brought music from the 1960s into the here and now. Gilma, who lives in Los Angeles, has received a Grammy nomination for her work as an artist and art director (including for Danny Elfman). Not bad either.

The two of them reinforce the mysterious aspects of the song not only with spherical and pulsating sounds and their perfectly harmonizing voices, but also with the video by Claus Prinz and Marlon Fink. “Hauntingly beautiful” is what the original said.

The Little Death “Sand”

The single “Sand” by Der kleine Tod will be released on January 19, 2024 Seayou Records.
