Moscow. April 24. INTERFAX.RU – The Basmanny Court of Moscow, at the request of the investigation, detained Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov for two months, the press service of the court told Interfax. He will remain in prison until June 23.
Placed in police custody for the same duration another person involved in the affair – an acquaintance of Deputy Minister Sergei Borodin.
According to the court, both were accused of receiving a bribe on a particularly large scale (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code).
According to investigators, Ivanov and Borodin “entered into a criminal conspiracy with third parties, joined in advance with them to commit a crime in an organized group – receiving on a particularly large scale in the form of services of a real estate nature during the signing of contracts. and subcontracting work for the needs of the Ministry of Defense,” they told a court.
Deputy Minister Ivanov does not admit his guilt in accepting a bribe, a source familiar with the matter later told Interfax: “Ivanov categorically denies his involvement in the crime with which he is accused and insists on his innocence .” According to Ivanov and his defenders, the deputy minister’s actions were civil in nature.
About Ivanov’s detention became known on the evening of April 23. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense in May 2016. At the Ministry of Defense, he supervises the construction and renovation of departmental facilities and is responsible for organizing property management, troop quartering, housing and support medical of the armed forces.
Before rising to the post of deputy minister, Ivanov headed JSC Oboronstroy for several years.
Part 6 art. 290 of the Criminal Code provides for sanctions for extortion of a bribe for committing actions (inaction) in favor of the bribe-giver, for illegal actions (inaction), by a group of people by prior conspiracy and on a particularly large scale. The maximum prison term is 15 years and a fine of up to seventy times the amount of the bribe is also provided.
