Deputy Celis asks Minister Tohá to clarify inclusion as a witness in the trial against Jorge Mateluna | National

The deputy for National Renewal, Andrés Celis, asked the minister Carolina Toha clarify why you were included as a witness for the defense of the pardoned Jorge Mateluna.

According to reports, Carolina Tohá, who was mayor of Santiago between 2012 and 2016, was considered among the six own witnesses proposed by Mateluna’s lawyers, Maria Alejandra Arriaza and Lorenzo Morales.

The idea was to “report on the labor meeting held with Jorge Mateluna Rojas, held prior to the facts that are the subject of the prosecutor’s accusation, on the work in the Culturarte company and will report on the defendant’s duties on the day of the events in the commune of Pudahuel”.

However, the current chief of staff ultimately did not testify at the trial.

It should be noted that his ex-partner, Jaime Madariaga de la Barra, assumed the defense of Mateluna in August 2017.

Due to the foregoing, Deputy Celis reported that “I asked the Minister of the Interior to report the reasons for which he joined the list of witnesses of the current pardoned Jorge Mateluna, in the trial for the robbery of a bank that cost him a prison sentence.” 11 years, in addition to another 5 for carrying weapons of war.

“It is also interesting to know if he maintains links with the criminal’s lawyers,” added the parliamentarian from Chile Vamos.

“Since they did not justify the pardons in the same decree, it would be good if they were transparent if, beyond the President’s conviction about Mateluna’s innocence, there was or was not any incidence of Minister Tohá in it,” he added.

Likewise, Celis asked that he indicate if he previously warned that he had some kind of relationship or contact with the ex-frontist. “A certain interest other than that of the pardon could be glimpsed,” he sentenced.

“Finally, in pursuit of transparency, I requested that Tohá also report if he maintains any judicial link with another of the people pardoned by Boric in December 2022 and in which other trials he has been on the list and in which he has testified since 2012 to the date,” he concluded.
