A group of deputies introduced a project to modify the Lobby Law, increasing the disqualification to five years so that secretaries of State cannot be members of senior management of companies following leaving their positions. This, following the series of meetings held by six Government ministers with private parties.

In addition to extending the deadline, the document proposes increasing the fines for non-compliance with the law from 50 to 500 UTM (32 million). The sanctions, according to the project, cover both the public sector and the private world.

This implies, “in addition to the fines, ranging from the inability to hold certain positions, the elimination of the Lobbyist registry for those who are dedicated to the activity who eventually break the law, and sanctions for natural or legal persons of disqualification to contract with the state”.

The independent representative, Camila Musante, author of the initiative, pointed out that the project comes “to put an end to the revolving door of power passing from the public sector to the private sector without any type of restrictions and that today we also see it reflected in The influence of money in politics.

Along these lines, he urged the Executive to sponsor the idea of ​​legislation, stating that the project is in line with the Government program. It should be noted that the initiative has transversal support from National Renewal, Evópoli, Democrats, Socialist Party and the Broad Front.

Meanwhile, deputy Andrés Celis (RN) proposed adding two more indications to the initiative he called the “Zalaquett Law.” “One that, I know causes resentment within my conglomerate, at least once a year might be raffled off in this Parliament, the power to open the current accounts of parliamentarians.”
