A survey, conducted by Public Health France at the end of 2022, demonstrated a significant increase in the number of French people having experienced a depressive episode. An even greater increase among young adults (18-24 years old). This increase was accelerated by the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another Public Health France survey revealed in June 2023 that more than one child (6-11 years old) in ten suffers from at least one mental health disorder. Faced with these figures, professionals are alarmed.
How can we explain this increase in depression among young people? Can we prevent it? How to support young people who need help?
