One of the most important transfers in the history of Argentine football is close to being closed. Claudio Diablito Echeverri was one step away from becoming a new Manchester City footballer, an entity that seems to have won the race to retain the services of this 17-year-old young man who has just shined in the World Cup in Indonesia and who in the Trophy final of Champions played his first game as a starter in River Plate.

As confirmed by the English press, the Citizens would acquire the talented player’s record in exchange for 25 million euros. However, all that money would not enter the coffers of Núñez’s team, since they own 85 percent of the Diablito’s token. The remaining percentage (15%) is from the humble Deportivo Luján de Resistencia club. This institution located in the Villa Río Negro neighborhood was founded in 2008 and has soccer as its main activity (it has both youth teams and Primera – it competes in the Chaco League). It also has a handball and hockey court. A figure that will forever change the history of the humble club.

However, there is a detail in that amount: the 15% limit is 1 million dollars. Emiliano Chiaramonte, current president of the club, confirmed in dialogue with Infobae that six years ago they signed a clause with River Plate that stated that the limit to be received in the event of a sale was a maximum of 1 million dollars. “We signed him in 2017 when he left. It was 15 percent, with a limit of one million dollars,” he explained.

“The club is 15 years old, it turns 16 on January 8. It is founded by a group of neighbors from the Villa Río Negro neighborhood. At first we only had the headquarters and now we have a three-quarter hectare property. At first I played, shortly before the pandemic I joined the Board of Directors and I am currently the president. The goal of the club was always to be able to contain and have a line of work for the kids in the neighborhood, where it is often difficult for kids to access the most populous clubs. We have an infrastructure that allows us to have activities,” he explained. And then he added: “We have psychologists and social workers, we work comprehensively on the growth of the children. And sport is essential. “Claudio is an example that the kids see every day.”

Within this land that they obtained through an expropriation (it was unused and they are currently working to have the definitive title), Deportivo Luján has a training field, where the youth teams play 11-a-side football. They are building their own stadium so that the first team can play as a home team in the Chaco League (they currently rent a stadium to play), 7-size fields, a handball and hockey field.

Chiaramonte also explained what Deportivo Luján’s idea is with this money. “We want to finish the spaces in infrastructure that we have pending, because it takes time to get that money. Make the enclosure of the property, since we only have a closed part. Finish assembling the stadium, if we cannot reach agreements with the provincial or national governments. The lighting, because we have a very precarious one that allows us to train, but not play. Finish other bathrooms. We only have one and one in a precarious way for the large number of athletes we have.” In his story, he highlighted that “finish the building to accompany the growth of athletes, not only in soccer, but also in handball and hockey. Sports elements, which are always missing. The quality of teachers to expand the staff, because we have several doing various tasks.”

In this humble Resistencia club they also warn that in the short term there could be other cases like those of Diablito: “It is a very significant change to continue with this work. We have achieved not only that Claudio is there. We recently signed with River for a Vega boy, who is an 11-year-old goalkeeper. There is also Diego González, who signed his professional contract with Unión de Santa Fe and is in the Argentine youth team. We have an interesting seedbed and the professionals do a good job.”

Finally, the president also acknowledged that one of the main ideas floating around at the moment in the Board of Directors is to name the Deportivo Luján property after Claudio Echeverri.
