On rails you will travel the imaginary border between the Steppe and the Mountains. The train departs from San Carlos de Bariloche, and makes a 30-kilometer journey under the light of the moon aboard a formation prepared especially for the occasion heading to the Perito Moreno Station. It includes the delights of local cuisine and musical shows.

The trip, in November, will be every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It leaves from the Bariloche Railway Station at the new departure time: 7:15 p.m. The trip lasts approximately one hour. Once there, at the Perito Moreno Station, all passengers are received by waiters at the Station Tea House.

There they are offered wine or hot chocolate and canapés. Then they are transferred to the “Quincho”, where dinner awaits them, which includes roast, lamb and empanadas with a side of salad, fried cakes or French fries, and flan for dessert. At the same time, for those who wish, there are also vegetarian, vegan and TACC-free options.

Dinner is accompanied by good live music, and the nocturnal beauty of the steppe. Meanwhile, at 10:30 p.m. we leave once more for Bariloche. If they wish, all visitors can enjoy coffee, hot chocolate, tea and cakes at the Tea House, while they wait for the start of the return journey.

A nice place to dine

You will have to return on your own and they recommend requesting a taxi service before getting on the train, since on your return there are no taxis in the train station area. From there, you will return to your accommodation, or better yet, go enjoy some beers, or a few drinks downtown, before going to sleep.

The experience is – according to tourists – “very comforting”, since the Materfer train has a modern formation and also has all the services, such as bathrooms, air conditioning and heating. Acquired by the Government of Río Negro in 2018, it transports 130 passengers in total.
