The Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs engineered a three-team trade that will send Byrn Forbes, among others, to the Mile High City.
This was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) first. Accordingly, shooting guard Bryn Forbes is moving to Denver, while forward Juancho Hernangomez has to move from Boston to San Antonio. The Nuggets also send Bol Bol and forward PJ Dozier to the Celtics. San Antonio also gets Denver’s second-round pick for 2028.
The most important player in this deal is likely to be Forbes, who is supposed to help the nuggets in terms of shooting. The 28-year-old was part of the Milwaukee Bucks rotation last year before rejoining Spurs in the summer. The guard rakes in $4.5 million this season and hits almost 42 percent from long range. With another shooter, MVP Nikola Jokic in particular should make life easier.
The Celtics, on the other hand, mainly save a little money (around 3 million), but are still just above the luxury tax. Both Dozier (torn cruciate ligament) and Bol (foot surgery) will no longer be able to help Boston this season. Bol was supposed to be traded to Detroit last week, but failed the medical check there and underwent surgery as a result.
The contracts of the two former Nuggets players both expire at the end of the season, but according to Wojnarowski the Celtics want to keep both for the time being. It was more important for Boston to get rid of Hernangomez’s contract (6.2 million, not guaranteed next season), which the Spurs now took on and made a mid-season trade for the first time in eight years.
