Kevin Durant came to the Phoenix Suns this season to be the franchise’s missing piece in its quest for a championship. However, the Denver Nuggets came out on top, winning by 25 points in Game 6 100-125, and reached the Western finals.
Keep in mind that injuries sidelined the Suns, with Chris Paul and DeAndre Ayton missing. However, a more even game was expected and it was not.
“It stank. It was embarrassing,” Durant told reporters following Game 6. “They came out and hit us in the mouth and we mightn’t recover.”
Denver took a 44-26 lead following the first quarter and never put its head down. Jokic was once once more the spark for his team, posting 14 points, five assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block in the starting frame, to finish the game with 31 points.
On facing Jokic, one of the best centers in NBA history, Durant spoke out. “I always knew how cool it was… It didn’t surprise me at all,” Durant said. “Jokic is an all-time great. He will go down as one of the all-time great centers to ever touch a basketball. So he went out and did what he was supposed to do.”
