Denver – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) would like the public to be aware of two improvement projects that may impact people’s travels next week and advises alternate routes.
Ramp to Southbound I-25 from Broadway to Close for One Week
A DOTI travel and safety improvement project in the area of Broadway and Interstate-25 will require crews to close the ramp to SB I-25 from Broadway for one week.
This closure to relocate sanitary sewer lines will begin Monday, October 9, and continue through Saturday, October 14. Drivers in the area headed south on Broadway can reach SB I-25 via Alameda Avenue; drivers headed northbound on Broadway can reach SB I-25 by heading west on Mississippi and then north on Santa Fe Drive. Posted signage will indicate official detour routes.
The Broadway and I-25 Safety and Travel Improvement Project will improve how people access southbound I-25 from Broadway and how they access the light rail station on foot, by bike and by car. Among other things, the project will:
replace the existing, at-grade southbound on-ramp to I-25 from Broadway with an elevated ramp.
Build a new stretch of Bannock St south of Exposition, creating a new entrance to the RTD Park-n-Ride from the north side.
Reconstruct local streets including Lincoln, Broadway, Kentucky and Ohio to improve traffic flow, while maintaining the south side entrance to the RTD Park-n-Ride at Kentucky Ave.
Extend the bikeway currently being constructed on Broadway to complete access to the station by bike, and expand multi-use pathways along Lincoln, Broadway, Kentucky and Ohio for walking and biking

One Block of Champa Street to Temporarily Close for Construction Crane Removal
The last tower crane that is onsite supporting the Colorado Convention Center Expansion project will be removed next week, requiring crews to temporarily close Champa Street from 14th Street to Speer Boulevard.
The one-block closure of Champa Street will start Monday, October 9, at 12:00 a.m. and continue through Saturday, October 14, at 11:59 p.m. Message boards are in place to give travelers who normally take this route advance notice.
Crews are constructing an 80,000 square foot multipurpose room, outdoor terrace, and other supporting spaces on top of the existing convention center building. The rooftop expansion offers convention-goers sweeping views of the City skyline and mountains. The improvements are expected to be completed at the end of this year.
