The Denver Broncos are parting ways with quarterback Russell Wilson following just two seasons.

Somehow admitting the extent of their blunder, the Broncos informed the 35-year-old athlete that he will be released from his agreement when the new administrative season begins on March 13.

Denver will be able to spread the remaining salary in Wilson’s contract over two seasons, but will have to pay him the sum of $39 million that was guaranteed to him for the 2024 season.

“We are moving forward with the goal of building the best possible team for 2024 and future years. We are excited to improve our roster this offseason, and we will have the flexibility to do so through the draft and the free agency market,” wrote general manager George Paton and coach -Chief Sean Payton in a joint statement.

Both under the orders of Nathaniel Hackett and Payton, Wilson showed himself incapable of offering a performance remotely resembling what he had offered in Seattle during his good years.

Wilson still had a better season in 2023 under Payton. He threw 26 touchdown passes once morest eight interceptions in 15 games.

But it wasn’t enough and Payton benched him in favor of Jarrett Stidham for the last two games of the season. Stidham went 1-1 and the Broncos finished the season at 8-9, their seventh straight losing season, and their eighth without making the playoffs.

The Broncos paid top dollar to acquire Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks two years ago.

Two first-round picks, two second-round picks, as well as quarterback Drew Lock and tight end Noah Fant were traded to the Seahawks.

The Colorado team had also granted $165 million in guarantees to Wilson as part of the five-year mega-contract and $245 million which was awarded to him in 2022.

“Over the past two years, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms, and I will always be grateful to the city of Denver,” Wilson responded on social media.

“Hard times never last, as long as you’re tough yourself. God has a plan for me. I’m excited regarding what’s coming for me,” added No. 3, Super Bowl winner at the end of the 2013 season.
