Scott Charmoli, a 61-year-old dentist, was found guilty of fraud and other charges, following it was learned that he damaged and broke his patients’ teeth to increase his profits, raising millions of dollars.

The individual is guilty of five counts of health care fraud and two counts of making false claims regarding his clients’ medical treatment.

According to prosecutors in the case, the dentist drilled or broke his clients’ teeth on purpose, charging them more for their work to repair the damage he himself had caused.

With this practice, this dentist went from earning 1.4 million dollars (more than 5,000 million pesos) and installing 434 dental crowns in 2014, to 2.5 million dollars (a little more than 9,500 million pesos) by installing more than 1,000 crowns in 2015.

Precisely, in 2015, Scott Charmoli began to pressure his clients to have treatments that they did not really need.

Between 2016 and 2019, he had earnings of more than 4.1 million dollars; that is, more than 16,000 million Colombian pesos. The dentist did more dental procedures than 95% of his colleagues in Wisconsin, United States.

In 2020, the man pleaded not guilty, saying he was guilty only “of working hard.”

As reported by the local media Milwaukee Journal Sentine l, Almost 100 former clients of this man sued him for medical malpractice.

Last Thursday, March 10, he was found guilty and might face a sentence of 10 years in prison for each charge of fraud and a maximum of 5 years for each of the other crimes of which he was accused. His sentencing was scheduled for next June.
