The 100-year-old Japanese audio brand Denon released this week two new completely wireless headphones that promise to take the second generation AirPods Pro head-on and, who knows, even dethrone them in some respects.
I speak of PerL It’s from PerL Pro, who are committed to a personalized audio experience to differentiate themselves from the competition. The very name of the headphones, by the way, comes from Personalized Lplease — something like “personalized listening”. They also feature adaptive acoustic technology from Fieldsparent company of Denon.
Both headphones are capable of measuring evoked otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), which helps to understand how sensitive a person’s ears are to each frequency. Once that information is gathered, the headphones use artificial intelligence to deliver an even more personalized sound experience — technology that came from Nuraa company bought by Denon earlier this year.
Both PerL and PerL Pro, according to danoncount on active noise cancellation (ANC), but only the most advanced model features an ANC adaptive, that is, which adapts to the noises of each environment to block external sound even more – something that the AirPods Pro will soon gain. Another exclusive feature of the Pro model is the ability to deliver high fidelity audio, similar to what we have on a CD, for example.
Furthermore, while PerL holds 6 hours of playback on a single charge (24 hours, including the charging case), PerL Pro brings significantly more battery life 8 hours (32 hours, with case). They also differ in terms of connectivity, as the first comes with support for Bluetooth 5.0 And the second, Bluetooth 5.3.
Unlike the cheaper model, the PerL Pro relies on technology-driven spatial audio. Dirac Virtuo, in addition to having a total of four microphones (two more than the most basic model). Both have the IPX4 certification against sweat and water.
As for the design, the only thing that differentiates the two models is the finish of the PerL Pro, which has a kind of shiny ring on the side of the headphones. The PerL leave by US$200 on the Denon website, while PerL Pro is sold by US$350.
At this first moment, both headphones are available in limited quantities. However, a more comprehensive release is expected towards the end of the year.
