Dennis Schröder misses the start of training at the Los Angeles Lakers – NBA

Training start at the Los Angeles Lakers – but a well-known German face is missing. Dennis Schröder missed returning to his new, old home in time for the start. The reason: a missing visa. “We’re still working on it,” said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka on Monday. “We hope he’ll be here with us by the end of the week.”

After his strong performances at the European Basketball Championship and his significant contribution to Germany’s bronze medal win, the Lakers brought Schröder back to California. Already in the 2020/21 season, the point guard appeared in purple and gold and completed 61 games for LA. After contract negotiations fell through, he left the franchise following a year and played for the Boston Celtics and later for the Houston Rockets in the past season.

Schröder a “great leader”

In the summer he was a free agent – and is now returning to LA. At least for the coming year (Schröder has signed for one season and 2.6 million euros), the 29-year-old should strengthen the backcourt. “He was a persistent build-up player,” said Pelinka regarding the motives for bringing the Braunschweig-born player back. “We’ve been very concerned with where he is in his career and he’s been a great leader.”

Schröder himself had declared on social media that he wanted to “put things right” in Los Angeles. However, before he can fulfill his promise, he needs the visa.
