The controversial kidnapping of Albert Heijn CEO Gerrit Jan Heijn in the 1980s remains an intriguing chapter in Dutch history. For his son, Dennis Heijn, this tragic event was not only a shocking moment, but also a defining point in his life.
Dennis Heijn is just a young adult when his father is kidnapped and later murdered in 1987, despite the desperate appeals of his family. This event leaves a deep impression on the young Heijn, who is confronted with the followingmath of this traumatic experience for the rest of his life.
Although Dennis initially did not intend to write regarding his father’s kidnapping, he has now, 37 years later, decided to turn his memories into a thriller. He draws inspiration from his personal experiences and the impact the kidnapping has had on his life.
‘Blood creeps where it shouldn’t’
“Blood flows where it cannot go,” says Dennis Heijn regarding his choice to write regarding an event that is so deeply intertwined with his own identity. Through his thriller he hopes to not only tell an exciting story. But also to pay tribute to his father’s life and legacy.
