After the surprise departure of Sean Payton, New Orleans has a new coach. And it is a product of the house. According to NFL Media, the Saints have reached an agreement with Dennis Allen to make him the new head coach.
He knows the house well, having held the position of defensive coordinator since 2015.
Allen also has experience as a head coach, having led the Raiders from 2012 to 2014. His record at the time: 8 wins for 28 losses.
He arrives in a complicated situation. The Saints are well above the expected salary limit for the upcoming season and the only two quarterbacks under contract are Taysom Hill and Ian Book.
Eric Bieniemy, Brian Flores or Aaron Glenn were among the candidates for the position.
