The number of bankruptcies in Denmark last year was at the highest level since 2010. According to the Danish statistics agency Statistics Denmark, 3,078 companies went bankrupt, almost 9 percent more than a year earlier.
Many companies, especially in construction and trade, collapsed. These sectors accounted for 45 percent of the total number of bankruptcies.
The statistics office’s data includes companies that have both employees and a turnover of 1 million Danish krone (approximately 134,000 euros).
The increased interest rates in particular have caused many construction companies to collapse, the Danish Chamber of Commerce said in an explanation. Broadly speaking, businesses suffered from rising costs and declining demand. According to the Danish Trade Register, companies that suffered from the corona followingmath made up a smaller share of bankruptcies last year.
In the Netherlands, statistics agency CBS will release figures on Friday regarding the number of bankruptcies in 2023. In the previous year, the statistics agency saw a “historically low number” of bankruptcies. Only in 2021 was the number of bankruptcies in the Netherlands even lower.
