The number of dengue cases is increasing inexorably. The latest bulletin from SpF (Santé public France) published on August 18, 2023, reports 490 suggestive cases noted between August 7 and 13. This represents an increase of 18% compared to the previous week. The number of municipalities affected is also increasing.
The dengue virus affects more and more individuals and municipalities over the weeks in Martinique.
Between August 7 and 13, 2023 approximately 490 suggestive cases were estimated, compared to the 400 and 240 cases recorded respectively between the first week of August and the last of July. The level of this indicator doubled in 15 days.
On the other hand, the number of home visits by SOS doctors for dengue fever stabilized (between August 7 and 13): 86 cases once morest 83 the previous week. In the same interval, SpF noted 16 visits to the emergency room and 3 hospitalizations. These are readings to be taken with caution because “due to school holidays, these indicators may be underestimated”.
For Public Health France, these figures are high enough for the island to go into “epidemic phase of dengue”.

Since the beginning of 2023, 583 confirmed cases of dengue have been detected more than half of them (58%) in the last four weeks (between July 17 and August 7). During this period, confirmed cases were recorded in 27 municipalities of the territory, versus 18 municipalities the previous four weeks.
The viral circulation is intensifying in the communes of the Center and very clearly in those of the north of Martinique. The municipalities of Trois-Ilets (55 cases), Schœlcher (34 cases), Fort-de-France (30 cases) and Saint-Pierre (20 cases) have recorded the highest cumulative number of cases over the last 4 weeks.
Geographical analysis of confirmed cases confirms the growing spread of the virus over a large area of the island, with ten municipalities recording incidence rates above 10 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.
