Dengue in Córdoba: waiting for the Easter peak, there are already more than 9,300 registered cases and seven deaths

So far in the 2024 season, they are 9,316 total reported cases of dengue and 8,774 of them are native. 92.6 percent (8,622) of these notifications were registered in the last five epidemiological weeks.

There is concern regarding the advance of the disease and the Provincial Ministry of Health issued an alert. “We are having a major outbreak, there are many cases, cases that will continue to increase for a few more weeks. We are waiting for a peak of cases for Easter“warned the provincial Health Secretary, Carlos Giordana, in Arriba Córdoba.

In this regard, Laura López, Undersecretary of Health Strategies and Access to Health, expressed: “It is important to highlight that, at this stage of the outbreak, the first level of care plays a fundamental role. For this reason, we are working together with the municipalities to strengthen timely detection, monitoring and referral of corresponding cases. At the same time, the second and third levels are reinforced in the care of patients who present signs or symptoms of alarm or severity.”

In relation to geographical distribution, 201 localities reported at least one case so far this season; and those that registered more than 100 indigenous cases are: Córdoba (4,768); Little Creek (526); Brinkmann (355); Villa María (323); The Rods (320); Saint Francis (316), Devotee (246); Bellville (193); Villa del Rosario (153); Luque (149); La Calera (146) and Villa Carlos Paz (120).

Most patients were treated on an outpatient basis, and 4.7 percent (436) required hospitalization. The most frequent symptoms were: Fever, muscle pain in the joints and headache.

So far this season, there have been seven deaths in the province from this disease, two new notifications compared to last week. Regarding the place of residence, three are from the Capital, two in General San Martín, one in Juárez Celman and one in San Justo. Five of them had comorbidities.

Regarding chikungunya, 25 cases were registered, 20 indigenous and five imported.

Health reminds that, in the presence of symptoms compatible with this disease, it is necessary to go to the nearest health center as soon as possible, both in the capital and in the interior.

In the city of Córdoba there are more than 100 Health Centers distributed in different neighborhoods, plus the four Directorates of Medical Specialties, which can provide timely care and make referrals to a more complex center if necessary.

Likewise, the province has 16 Primary Health Care Centers -CAPS- in the city where you can go for an early consultation for this disease.

For their part, all provincial and municipal hospitals in the capital and the interior are reference centers and are trained to provide 24-hour care and support to people who present this pathology, especially those with alarming or serious signs or symptoms.
