Dengue in Córdoba: 10 new cases were confirmed

In the province of Córdoba, 10 new cases of dengue were confirmed, making a total of 26 cases in the 2022/23 season.

20 of them are autochthonous, while the other six come from people who were abroad: one from Colombia, one from Peru, one from Brazil, one from Mexico and two from Bolivia.

In addition, the authorities Monitoring Committee for mosquito-borne diseases assured that two new cases of chikungunya were added, representing a total of 10 since the beginning of the season. They all have travel histories.

Laura López, director of Epidemiology, explained: “We are registering an outbreak in the southern part of the city, in which in recent days and thanks to the active search for feverish patients, we have confirmed 17 cases.”

“Starting with the first notification, blocking actions were carried out to minimize the risk of transmission and within this framework we have visited 1,562 homes in the area. All the people received medical assistance and are evolving favorably,” he added.

Dengue: situation at the national level

In relation to the national context, up to February 18, 653 cases of dengue were confirmed, of which 559 did not record a travel history.

As confirmed by the authorities, there is circulation in 16 towns in six provinces, with a higher incidence of infections in the central and northwestern region of the country.

Regarding chikungunya, in the 22/23 season, 134 positive cases were recorded, of which four had no travel history.

Dengue: situation at the regional level

From epidemiological week 1 to 4 of 2023, a total of 150,385 cases of dengue were registered in Brazil, 31,283 in Bolivia, 11,585 in Peru, and 278 in Paraguay.

In this regard, Laura López highlighted: “Since the last monitoring room, countries in the region such as Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and also our country, have doubled or tripled the notification of dengue cases. Regarding chikungunya, Paraguay continues to be the country with the highest registration, with 21,067 cases distributed in all its states and with autochthonous circulation.

“We are observing that the cases always present with fever or low-grade fever; Therefore, given this, even if it is mild, or if there are other symptoms such as headache, behind the eyes, in the muscles or in the joints, you should go immediately to the medical consultation, ”recommended López.
