Dengue fever killed 688 people in Burkina Faso from January 1 to December 10, 2023, according to medical authorities.

During an information meeting on Wednesday in Ziniaré, a town northeast of Ouagadougou, Ms. Rokia Guébré, district chief medical officer, explained that in the week of December 4 to 10, 2023, 5,109 suspected cases, including 2,178 probable cases. dengue fever, were reported, and 12 deaths recorded.

Since the start of 2023, 146,878 cases of dengue fever, including 67,658 suspected cases and 688 deaths, have been reported, she said.

However, she noted a downward trend in the disease in general thanks to the intensification of the means of control undertaken by the health authorities.

The main centers of dengue cases in Burkina Faso are Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, according to the Ministry of Health.
