Dengue Epidemic Update and Prevention Strategies in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthélemy, and Saint Martin

After having experienced a constant increase then a relative stagnation, the dengue epidemic is clearly decreasing in both Guadeloupe and Martinique. Conversely, if it tends to stagnate in Saint Barthélemy, it is still increasing in Saint Martin. Results recorded until December 7.

Concretely, the regional health agencies draw up the following findings for the four territories:

  • After stabilization, the number of clinically suggestive cases decreases in equivalent proportions in Guadeloupe and Martinique.
    In hospitals, the number of emergency room visits is also decreasing in Martinique, but it is increasing in Guadeloupe.
  • In Saint-Martin, the number of cases clinically suggestive of dengue is increasing once more (+70%);
  • In Saint-Barthélemy, it is stabilizing, close to 85 cases per week. The number of visits to emergency departments has decreased by 50% in one week in Saint-Martin, but it is increasing once more in Saint-Barthélemy (+ 24%).

Guadeloupe :
* 450 clinically suggestive cases (compared to 540 the previous week (S.47). (Source: Réseau Médecins Sentinelles)

* 9 hospitalizations following going to the emergency room (compared to 7 in S47)

Since week 2023-30, 43 serious cases in intensive care including 7 deaths

Martinique :

* 490 clinically suggestive cases (compared to 560 in S47)

*17 hospitalizations following going to the emergency room (compared to 11 in S47)

Since week 2023-30, 26 serious cases in intensive care including 6 deaths

Saint Martin :

Saint Barthélemy:
