The 54-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son found dead on Saturday in Denderhoutem, East Flanders, were stabbed to death. Searches are underway in the Dendre in Aalst to find the body of the suspect, who probably committed a desperate act, the East Flanders prosecutor’s office confirmed on Sunday. They are the woman’s husband and the son’s father-in-law.

The bodies were found in a house on Borrekent Street. The public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and went to the site with a doctor, the laboratory and a team from the federal judicial police.

The suspect, aged 51, is the woman’s husband and the father-in-law of her son. It is searched. The man probably committed an act of desperation. His car was found near the Dendre in Aalst and witnesses saw a person jump into the water on Saturday evening. Several search operations have been carried out, but so far no body has been found in the water.
