After 10 years of savings, Véronique and Philippe, her husband, were able to realize their dream of affording themselves a motorhome. However, the happy owners were quickly disillusioned when they learned that taxation had changed.
“We bought it on June 23. At the beginning, we received the normal tax which was 148 euros, as expected before, and 15 days ago we received a rectification of 2775 euros to be paid before the 25th of this month“, says Véronique. “No one warned us of anything.”
The reason for this rectification is the decree adopted by Wallonia on 1is January 2022 which considers motorhomes as cars and no longer as utilities as before. From now on, owners must pay circulation and registration taxes.
To show their displeasure, the owners want to hit hard. They were 300 this Sunday to have met in Wavre (Walloon Brabant) to demonstrate and demand the end of this tax.
“We call for a total boycott of the Walloon areas”, asserts Xavier, one of the organizers of the event. “It is useless to circulate on the Walloon areas because we are not wanted”he regrets, calling on his congeners to go to France, Flanders and Luxembourg instead.
