Demon’s Souls PS5 puts pressure on FromSoftware teams

Certainly one of the most anticipated games of this early 2021, Elden Ring has been eagerly awaited by legions of impatient fans for several years now … Many, many hopes thus rest on the shoulders of its developer FromSoftware, with all the pressure that goes with it. Speaking of pressure, another factor is raising the stakes for the Japanese studio — and it’s a very special game: the remake of Demon’s Souls—The pivotal title of the FromSoftware game library — on PlayStation 5.

As the report the site VideoGamesChronicles According to an interview with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki for Edge magazine, the Bluepoint remake would have added extra pressure for the making ofElden Ring.

The quest for beauty

The Bluepoint studio has shaped its reputation thanks to the very often sumptuous graphics of its productions, whether it is the remake of Shadow of the Colossus in 2018 or more recently from Demon’s Souls in 2020. A trademark that puts pressure on artists ofElden Ring as Miyazaki explains: “I’m sure our graphic design team feels the pressure more than anyone else. And not just because of Elden Ring, but with the other games that have produced it“.

If FromSoftware is far from being a developer known for its prowess in the field of graphics, Miyazaki says that the development teams have redoubled their efforts to ensure an exceptional patina. “Graphic fidelity has never been one of our priorities. What we ask of the graphics part depends on the platforms and the needs of the game itself, and it takes less importance compared to the other elements of the development. […] And they worked extremely hard on Elden Ring […] to create one of the most beautiful games we have ever made.”

A story of memories

But if this pressure is real, Miyazaki did not take the controller in hand to explore the remake of Bluepoint. Miyazaki thus confides that she has never played Demon’s Souls PlayStation 5 version. But this shouldn’t be seen as any contempt for Bluepoint’s work — just a blockage on the part of the Japanese game designer. “It’s just that I don’t like playing the games that I made in the past”He explains thus.

It brings up a lot of emotions, a lot of old memories, and it gets over me a bit, making me feel like I don’t play anymore. So even though I haven’t played the Demon’s remake [Souls], I’m still very proud to see this new look and all these next-gen graphics.

The output ofElden Ring is scheduled for release on February 25 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC consoles.
