Demolition of Former NATO Antenna: Precision Planning and Execution by Nonet

The former NATO antenna located in Sart-Messire-Guillaume (commune of Court-Saint-Etienne), near the tree of justice, will be destroyed this Thursday at 3:30 p.m. sharp. It was built in the 1950s but had not been used for a long time due to technological developments, notably the development of satellites. About ten years ago, the site was even sold to an agricultural and forestry company managed by the Boël family. The owner therefore decided to clean up.

Naturally, a 162 meter high pylon, whose weight is estimated at around 250 tonnes, cannot be brought down just like that. The demolition was prepared with extreme precision.

“There were no plans, explains Gilles Durigneux, director of the demolition division at Nonet, the company responsible for demolition. We first had to send drones to do 3D modeling and to be able to redo plans of the structure, in order to fully understand its stability and the way in which we were going to bring it down.”
