Democrats “Vardan Lietuvos” appealed to the Minister of Justice Ewelina Dobrowolska regarding the situation in Domeikava

The community of Domeikava expressed concern about the establishment of the Pusiaukele home and the probation service of the Kaunas region in their neighborhood, Stumbro st. 3, in Šakių village, Domeikava ward, Kaunas district.

The Democrats draw attention to the fact that the material provided by the community is worrying, that local residents did not learn information about future activities in the already purchased building directly, but from the public space and social networks, because communication that may take place after a while does not in any way comply with the principle of transparency of public authorities, which, as stated by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania in 2008 January 22 in the ruling, presupposes dissemination and communication of information, openness and publicity.

Therefore, in principle supporting the resocialization and integration of convicts, the members of the democratic faction ask for accurate information on how the Domeikava community was informed and consulted during the whole process of establishing Pusiaukele’s home: planning the location, choosing the building and carrying out the building purchase procedure.

“Respecting people and local residents, it is necessary to discuss important issues with the community. In this case, the decision was made ignoring her opinion. This is intolerable, because it contradicts the essence of democracy”, emphasizes Prof. skilled Dr. Vilija Targamadze.
